About this place
The first choice at Ryugetsudo is between the salon, where conversation is welcome, and the listening room, where the focus is on music. The salon is a place to linger over coffee and cake; the listening room is presented as a quiet space for classical music. Several visitors reported paying a separate 600-yen charge for the listening room, and some enjoyed requesting a piece of music. There are also room-specific rules, such as refraining from conversation and using a smartphone, so it suits a visit when quiet listening is the priority.
For a cake to take centre stage, consider the opera cake, layered with coffee cream and chocolate cream between sheets of almond sponge. One diner who ordered it with an iced coffee recalled that the cake was larger than expected and the coffee was mellow, with a medium roast. Those keen to compare textures might prefer the 2-layer cheesecake, described as soft on top, a little firmer underneath and rich in cheese flavour. The menu also includes Sachertorte: chocolate sponge with apricot jam and a fondant coating; pear and caramel mousse; and a chocolate tart filled with salted ganache. There is plenty of choice for cake lovers.
Drinks extend beyond coffee to include straight teas such as Uva and Darjeeling, royal milk tea and gyokuro. Whether you are setting aside time to listen to music or settling into the salon for cake and a drink, this café lets you choose a space to suit the occasion.
